About Ray M. Schon Memorial Park

Located across the street from Village Hall on N. Main Street in Glen Carbon, IL are two beautifully intertwined parklands that stretch across nearly 72 acres of pristine green space, ponds, woods, and miles of scenic trails. Ray M. Schon Memorial Park is Glen Carbon’s newest addition, having opened to the public in 2013. It features an abundance of lush, green open space, ADA-accessible fishing docks, paved walking trails, a brand-new playground, public restrooms, and plenty of parking space – and there are even more amenities still in the pipeline!

Just south of the entrance to the new playground is a second parking lot that serves as a trailhead for the Heritage Connector Bike Trail. Paved walking paths fork off from the trailhead, connecting it to Schon Park’s other amenities and accommodations before looping back around.

Greenspace North Park is a 34-acre conservation area just west of Schon Park accessed via the Heritage Connector Bike Trail and features a mix of asphalt-surfaced bike trails and dedicated walking/hiking trails lined with towering trees, wildflowers, and other native plants as it meanders through the park. Continue west along the Greenspace North Trail and you will eventually find yourself on MCT’s Nickel Plate Trail, giving you access to hundreds of miles of paved trails and limitless opportunities to continue your outdoor adventure.
