Recreation Centers in the Metro East

One-Stop Destination for Recreation, Leisure, Sports, Fitness + More
If you’re looking for a one-stop destination for all things leisure and recreation, consider a visit to one of the incredible recreation centers located in the Metro East. Recreation Centers are insulated from the harsh elements, allowing for year-round, all-season access to your favorite recreational activities like swimming, sports, fitness, and rock climbing. *Membership or entry fee may be required.

The Rec Complex of Fairview Heights (also known as “the Rec”) is one of the Metro East’s newest recreation centers, having opened to the public in 2019. This sprawling recreational hub has everything, from rock climbing (Clip ‘N Climb), volleyball, basketball, tee ball, and soccer to group fitness classes and a wide range of programming options for all age groups. And we would be remised if we didn’t mention the Rec’s incredible aquatics facility; it features an indoor splash pad, water slides, a zero-depth entry pool, and even a lazy river!

There is also Korte Recreation Center in Highland, IL. This popular facility, much like the Rec, features a wide selection of recreational offerings including, but not limited to, an indoor swimming pool, running/walking track, fitness area, and gymnasium. And as an added perk, the facility itself is situated within Highland’s Glik Park, providing convenient access to even more recreational attractions like outdoor walking trails, a skate park, ball fields, as well as several playgrounds. And coming soon (currently in development) is the R.P. Lumber Center (also known as “TheCenter”) located in Edwardsville, IL. The future complex will offer year-round access to a state-of-the-art ice rink for activities like skating, curling and hockey, along with an indoor track and fitness center, a teen center, and other park programs. Once open to the public, TheCenter will also feature a connection to the MCT Nature Trail, part of the Metro-East’s regional trail network.
